Cross|Section shows you what’s inside hip-hop and r&b. Each week a decade will be chosen and samples will be selected corresponding to that decade. The song that samples that cut will serve as the transition to maintain the set’s momentum. What excites me is that so many different genres are sampled in hip-hop, so I get to hit all those too. It also allows for energy to be maintained in transitions between the music. I mix the set live, with the aim of giving it a concert introduction feel. When I do choose to break up the music, I might tell the story of how the artist chose the sample, make up a story, or discuss new music releases that I keep coming back to. Where we slice into what’s at the core of hip-hop & r&b…
