WREK does more than ‘just play music.’ Part of WREK’s mission is to serve the community, and one of the ways we fulfill that mission is to include regular public affairs programming in our schedule. This includes GT sports coverage, the daily lunchtime programs, and announcements (PSAs) throughout the day.
Pulse of the Planet
Weekdays 10:30 AM, 3 PM
Each weekday, the Pulse of the Planet radio series provides its listeners with a two-minute sound portrait of Planet Earth, tracking the rhythms of nature, culture and science worldwide, blending interviews with extraordinary natural sound.

Tech Nation

Tech Nation features the fresh interview style of Dr. Moira Gunn, a former NASA scientist and engineer, as she focuses on the impact of technology in America today. Each week features an interview, a commentary and a weekly segment called BioTech Nation, which includes the BioIssue of the Week.

Between The Lines is a weekly syndicated half-hour news magazine featuring progressive perspectives on national and international political, economic and social issues. The program also offers timely information on how to become active on the issues featured on each week’s program. Every interview segment includes phone numbers and Web sites to facilitate contact between listeners and activist groups that are taking a stand on critical issues of the day.

This Way Out

Since 1988, the award-winning This Way Out has been devoted to issues and concerns of the gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender communities. Listen in for a 10-minute summary of significant news in or affecting sexual minority communities around the world. Conversations with writers, filmmakers, musical performers and other entertainers, news feature stories, humor, poetry, media criticism, historical retrospectives and other production features round out each half-hour.

Alternative Radio

Alternative Radio, established in 1986, is a weekly one-hour public affairs program offered free to all public radio stations in the US, Canada, Europe and beyond. AR provides information, analyses and views that are frequently ignored or distorted in other media. AR consists of David, Joe and Gavin and a few volunteers working in a 400 sq ft office in Boulder.
