Let Us Put You on the Good Foot This Week
Well, it’s been a while since I’ve given you more than just a rundown of upcoming shows, and this week presents a good opportunity to do just that… My special guest this week will be Ally Stevens of Good Foot Promotions, a self-made lass who’s been blessing Atlanta by bringing some really great shows and performances to fruition. With a love of music as big as her heart, Ally threw off the 9-to-5 shackles a few years ago to pursue that passion as a concert promoter and hasn’t looked back since. Though with a heavy influence on funk and soul, she books shows across a wide array of other genres including folk, reggae, electronica, jazz, hip-hop, Americana — the list goes on.
Not to belittle the artists themselves — for without great artists, we’d have nothing to listen and dance to — but a good promoter can really make a difference in a burgeoning band’s notoriety. And Ally’s seen some of her regular acts make waves to growing crowds around town and an on a more national scene.
On the local scene, she works regularly with Cadillac Jones, Atlanta Funk Society, Waller and Plectophilia, and she’s responsible for bringing a lot of national talent to Atlanta, including Otis Redding III, Breakestra, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, Brownout, Orgone, and the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey. Aside from regularly booking The Five Spot, The EARL, Smith’s Olde Bar, The Masquerade, Apache Cafe, 529, and The Drunken Unicorn in Atlanta, she’s begun organizing similar events in Asheville, NC and Fort Collins, CO.
Aside from tooting her horn for her, we’re also having Ally in to talk about the Good Foot 3-Year Anniversary Party, going down this Friday at The Five Spot. They’re practically giving the good times way (pay what you feel like) and it’ll feature a little bit of something from the across the musical spectrum, including the following acts: Front Porch Session Players (Americana), Spencer Pope (Jazz Fusion), Bonemeal Maker (Blues/Funk feat members of Dialect Trio), Sailing to Denver (Folk/Americana), and Freddy’s Finest (Funk/Blues featuring members of Newberry Jam). The night will round out with an all-out jam, featuring some of Atlanta’s best musical talents. It’s sure to be a good one…
So tune in this Thursday from 11pm to midnight on your station for quality, diverse music 91.1 fm in Atlanta or streaming live at wrek.org.
