Funxsatawny Phil Says “Stay Hot this Winter!”

Lots of great shows to get to in the coming weeks, so let’s get right down to What’s Up with What’s Going Down in the A-town:

And we’d be remiss if we didn’t pay tribute to the sad demise of a legend in Black History, not to mention the wonders he did for funk, r&b, hip hop, jazz and soul musicians of all colors. Mr. Don Cornelius, R.I.L.P.&S. (Rest in Love Peace and Soooooul!)

Electric Boogaloo Playlist for 01.27.12

Electric Boogaloo Playlist for 11.24.11

Ok. It’s been a while since we’ve updated, and hopefully you don’t hold us responsible. For we are irresponsible. I blame it on the boogie. Anywho, last night’s turkey jam was quite damn funky if I do say so myself. We’ll have an updated What’s Up” coming soon, but in the meantime, you’ve got two quality options tonight: Noot d’ Noot will be getting down at the EARL, while Cherry Royale plays their last Atl show of 2011 at Smith’s Olde Bar. And tomorrow night (Saturday), you’ve got a jazz-funk tribute to Black Sabbath done by Russell Gunn‘s Elektrik Butterfly. It’ll be going down at Apache Cafe.

Those are your announcements. Here is the play list from last night! Pick up the stream here! or embedded in the Electric Boogaloo home page.

Gettin’ down in A-town… that’s what’s up

I’ll get to last week’s playlist in a bit, but if you need it just look to the  Twitter feed, or go to the Mothership and click on the stream. That said, here’s What’s Up with What’s Going Down:

A whole slew of shows of note coming in in the fair city of Atlanta. I’ve got the Bear Creek Fest list here as well, even though it’s in Florida, its a nice little weekend fest. And don’t forget about the Atlanta History Center‘s exhibit celebrating the Apollo Theater’s contribution to the American Arts. It goes into March of next year.

Also new to the list is the Numero Group Invades Atlanta at 529 on November 16th. Numero is an archival label out of Chicago, specializing in releasing some of the nastiest funk which has hardly seen the light of day. They’ll have a pop-up record store then enlighten the crowd spinning 45’s back to back with Atlanta’s own Brian Poust. Check the video below for a sampling of some Numero Group genius.

That’s it. Hopefully that’ll give you something to do between now and the end of the year. Check back for frequent re-posts and updates.
