Full Album Appreciation 11/17

This morning’s album:

Dean & Britta – 13 Most Beautiful Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests

Image result for dean and britta 13 most beautiful

Right so Andy Warhol, yeah? Used to do this thing in the Warehouse where he would take film reels and fill a full one by just filming people who came into his studio, one person per reel. And they would just do whatever, brush their teeth or laugh or just stand there or whatever. The reels used were a bit over 4 minutes long and he ended up collecting loads of them, full of his friends.

A while after this right, the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh decides they’re going to put on a big exhibit of them but since all the videos are silent they get Dean & Britta in, a married couple who were in this band Luna together, to create an album for it. And they did. And it was great.

Each song for a different film, below I’ve listed the track name next to who Warhol took the film of.

  1. Silver Factory Theme – Billy Name
  2. I’ll Keep It With Mine – Nico
  3. Not a Young Man Anymore – Lou Reed (Found the video for this one on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLpjmOWTMZI) It’s also especially exciting cause it’s a velvet underground cover from when Lou Reed was the singer.
  4. I Found It Not So – Mary Woronov
  5. It Don’t Rain in Beverly Hills – Eddie Sedgwick
  6. Incandescent Innocent – Freddy Herko
  7. International Velvet Redux – Susan Bottomly
  8. Teenage Lightning and Lonely Highways – Paul America
  9. Herringbone Tweed – Dennis Hopper
  10. Richard Rheem Theme – Richard Rheem
  11. Knives From Bavaria – Baby Jane Holzer
  12. Eyes in my Smoke – Ingrid Superstar
  13. Ann Buchanan Theme – Ann Buchanan

A few of these were velvet underground covers which was cool cause they played in the Warehouse all the time.

Every few years for the past decade or so the high museum will put on a performance where they get Dean & Britta in and they perform while the screen tests are projected. Here’s hoping that comes back around soon.
