Electric Boogaloo Playlist for 09.29.11

First, special thanks for Justin Melotte of the Fiasco for popping in the studio last week. He’s also a founding member of the Etowah River Music Festival, taking place this Friday and Saturday, October 7th and 8th at the Etowah River Campgrounds. Camp out, jam out and have a funky good time. Here’s the Fiasco at last year’s Summer Shade Fest in Grant Park:

Another late breaking show going on this Friday is the Martans (formerly Wauchope Krewe), a cajun funk outfit, featuring one of the best ‘boners in town in Jonathan Lloyd (Cadillac Jones, Atlanta Funk Society, Lloyd’s Rocksteady Revue, etc.) The Martans will be blessing an Atlanta institution, The Northside Tavern this Friday. Look for the official listing later this week in an updated “What’s Up With What’s Going Down!”

Now, the playlist from last week, where Treacherous slammed it down and curbstomped the funk! Pick up the stream here! or embedded in the Electric Boogaloo home page.

50LBS of Rice: October 3, 2011

Today, Winter and I will talk about a much loved beverage of the Asian Community. It’s not Jasmine or Green Tea, Sake, or even Bubble Tea. The subject of tonight’s commentary is the dutch beer Heineken. Surprised? Well, I decided to ask my esteemed colleague Winter about the matter. Here is a rough transcription of how it went:

JWalker: “So Winter, where are you from exactly?”

Winter: “Shanghai, China.”

JWalker: “I guess that means out of all of us here, you here have the most Asian perspective on things. So what is your favorite beer and why?”

Winter:  “Heineken, cause it’s good.” (he is not much of a conversationalist)

JWalker: “Good How?”

Winter: “Very Good…”

The conversation digressed to other things such as a knockoff Audi that he saw in China. The car had 8 rings on it. Every family gathering that I have gone to has featured Heineken as a beverage of choice. I am not saying that it is everyone’s favorite but for sure, you can’t go wrong bringing Heineken to an Asian party. I will leave you with this evidence, if you are still doubtful of my opinion.

This photo was taken at a Asian Supermarket in Chamblee, GA. Notice the absurd amount of Heineken in the grocery store. I rest my case. See you guys next week.
